We will visit the Osaka castle in the morning and then the Kuromon local market. Kuromon Ichiba is a lively covered market that stretches for 580 meters in Osaka’s Chuo Ward. Nicknamed “Osaka’s kitchen” because both local homeowners and restaurant chefs get their supplies here. The market is famous for its fresh seafood and has recently become a popular tourist attraction. Did you know that instant ramen, prepared by just pouring hot water, was created in Osaka? Momofuku Ando, the founder of Nissin Foods, invented chicken ramen in Osaka, then created the cup noodles that we are all familiar with. Visit the CUP NOODLES Museum (closed on Tuesdays) in Osaka Ikeda where you can create your own original cup noodles. Our last stop would be the Osaka Museum of Housing and Living (closed on Tuesdays) which is a remarkable facility located in the northeastern part of the Kita Area. The museum has re-created buildings and streets that show what life was like in Osaka in the past. A model of the entire city during the Edo Period, the only one of its kind in Japan, is housed in the building. Visitors can learn all about Osakas’ development, experiencing via interactive exhibits the different ways of life in the city during different periods of its history.

Himeji Castle, also known as the White Heron Castle, is the largest and most visited castle in Japan, and it was registered in 1993 as one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country. Its status as one of Japan’s 12 remaining original castles makes this fortress a must for anyone interested in the history of Japan. Later, we will take you to the city of Kobe. The area of Kitano-cho in Kobe, contains a number of western-style residences or ijinkan at the foot of Mt. Rokko, north of Sannomiya Station. Kobe’s ijinkan dates from the early Meiji Period and Taisho Period of Japanese history and were built after Kobe was opened as a Treaty Port in 1869. The Kitano-cho area has the best-preserved ijinkan in Japan though there are smaller areas of such foreigners’ houses in other former Treaty Ports such as Yokohama, Nagasaki, and Hakodate.
