Day 4: Seoul - Suwon - Andong - Gyeongju

Join us on an exciting journey today as we hop on a bus ride to Suwon, a short half-hour journey away. There, we’ll explore the magnificent Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a powerful display of architecture and military defense systems. Be transported back in time to the late 18th century and witness the grandeur and might of the Joseon Dynasty. Our next stop will be the charming Andong Hahoe Village, where you’ll be awed by the well-preserved traditional architecture, including rustic thatched roof houses, passed down for generations. Immerse yourself in the village’s rich cultural heritage with a history steeped in Confucianism and the traditional Hahoe Byeolsin Gut mask dance drama. As the sun sets, we’ll travel an hour and a half to Gyeongju, where you’ll have the rest of the day to unwind and relax at the hotel or participate in our optional program.

Our first stop on this journey is Anapji, also known as Donggung Palace, a stunning palace site in Gyeongju, South Korea. Built-in the 7th century as a secondary palace during the Silla Dynasty, it was a hub for royal banquets and events, surrounded by lush gardens and pavilions that exude a natural beauty. Though only a few foundations and columns remain today, the palace site has been restored to its former glory and is a popular tourist hotspot that leaves visitors in awe of its history and grandeur. But that’s not all – our next destination is Cheomseongdae, an astronomical observatory that dates back to the Silla Dynasty in the 7th century. As the oldest observatory in East Asia, it is a true masterpiece of ancient Korean astronomy, with a cylindrical tower made of stone that is sure to take your breath away. Used to observe the stars and the moon, Cheomseongdae’s sophisticated construction reflects the advanced astronomical knowledge and ingenuity of the Silla people.

Day 5: Gyeongju - Busan

To start our day, we will visit the historic Bulguksa Temple located in Gyeongju, South Korea. This awe-inspiring Buddhist temple was constructed in the late 7th and early 8th centuries during the Silla Kingdom, and it is regarded as one of the most significant cultural and historical sites in the country. Its magnificent stone carvings, elegant architecture, and breathtaking natural scenery are truly captivating. This temple has also been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a must-visit destination for tourists. Afterward, we will head to the Daereungwon Tomb Complex, also known as Cheonmachong Tomb, another fascinating site in Gyeongju, South Korea. This burial site is believed to date back to the Silla Kingdom and is thought to be the final resting place of a Silla King or nobleman. The tomb is renowned for the discovery of a wooden horse and other artifacts that have helped to shed light on the culture and society of the Silla Kingdom. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn about the history of South Korea and explore one of its most intriguing archaeological sites.

After the tour, we will embark on a 1-hour exciting trip to Busan to explore the famous Gamcheon Culture Village. Situated on a hillside, this neighborhood is a feast for the eyes with its eclectic architecture, vibrant street art, and winding alleyways. Originally established in the 1940s as a shelter for Korean War refugees, the village has since been transformed into a creative hub. Visitors can lose themselves in the colorful maze of streets and marvel at the many murals, sculptures, and other art pieces that adorn the buildings. Next, we will make a stop at the "BIFF Square," which stands at the center of Busan and is famous for being the primary venue of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). The square hosts various theaters, screening rooms, and event spaces and serves as a hub of the festival’s activities.
